Sell Your RV in Elizabeth, NJ From Where It Sits

If you are thinking about selling an RV in Elizabeth, do not move it to the curb simply to make the sale easier. City rules generally prohibit recreational vehicles, campers and trailers from being parked on city streets. If the RV already sits at a home, storage property, repair facility or another accessible off-street location, start there.

Since 2009, Samy RV has bought recreational vehicles directly from owners, including older, damaged and non-running units. Free pickup is included for accepted purchases. You can also review the broader range of RVs and conditions we buy before requesting an offer.

No obligation. Free towing included.

Don’t Move It to the Curb Just to Sell It

Elizabeth Code §10.40.075 prohibits parking a trailer, recreational vehicle, camper or boat on a city street, even when it is attached to another vehicle. The ordinance includes limited exceptions for circumstances such as deliveries, utility work, active repair work and emergencies. The City of Elizabeth provides access to the current city code and ordinances.

For an owner already considering a sale, the practical point is simple: the street should not be treated as temporary RV storage or a staging area while waiting for a buyer or pickup.

If the RV is already in an accessible off-street location, establish its condition and removal needs there first. Paying to relocate it before you know whether the move is necessary can add cost without improving the decision.

Two Sets of Photos Matter

The first set shows what you are selling. The second shows how it leaves.

  • Condition photos: exterior, interior, tires, roof concerns and any visible water, body, slide or mechanical damage.
  • Access photos: driveway or storage aisle, gate, clear space around the RV, parked vehicles, fences, walls, low branches, overhead wires and the route to the street.

For a motorhome, say whether it starts, rolls, steers, has keys and whether the tires hold air. For a travel trailer or fifth wheel, show the hitch or pin box and the space needed to reach it. If the unit cannot move normally, the guide to selling a non-running RV explains the mobility and access details that are especially useful to provide.

A tight location is not something to hide. It is information to provide early.

Don’t Repair for a Buyer You Haven’t Chosen Yet

Preparing an RV for a private buyer and requesting an as-is offer are two different jobs.

A clean, road-ready RV may still be a good private-sale candidate if you have time to advertise it, answer buyer questions, arrange inspections and negotiate the transfer. In that case, cleaning and selected repairs may help.

The calculation changes when a roof repair is competing with tires, batteries, generator work, slide problems or mechanical repairs. Before approving expensive work solely to improve the sale, find out what the RV may be worth in its present condition. Then compare that number with the repair cost and the realistic benefit of doing the work.

The offer does not make the decision for you. It gives you something concrete to compare with the alternatives.

What to Send for an Accurate Review

You do not need a polished advertisement. Start with an accurate picture of the RV as it sits today.

  • Year, make, model, RV type and approximate length
  • Motorhome mileage, when applicable
  • Title status and any known lien or ownership issue
  • Whether it starts, drives, rolls, steers or tows normally
  • Known roof, water, generator, electrical, mechanical, slide or appliance problems
  • Current condition photos plus photos of the pickup route

Keep New Jersey Paperwork on the New Jersey Page

Have the title and any lien information ready before pickup. Ownership transfer and plate procedures are statewide, so the New Jersey RV selling page is the better place for broader state-level guidance rather than repeating it here.

If New Jersey plates will not be transferred to another eligible vehicle, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission explains how unused plates are surrendered. Check current MVC requirements when completing the transfer.

Questions About Selling an RV in Elizabeth

Can I move my RV onto an Elizabeth street while arranging the sale?

Generally, no. Elizabeth Code §10.40.075 prohibits trailers, recreational vehicles and campers from being parked on city streets, including while attached to another vehicle, subject to the ordinance’s limited exceptions. If the RV already sits off-street, evaluate the sale and pickup from that location first.

What if the RV does not run and is difficult to move?

Non-running RVs may be considered. Explain exactly what prevents normal movement and provide clear photos of the surrounding access. Tires, steering, brakes, keys, hitch access and working space can all matter when removal is planned.

Do I need to repair the RV before requesting an offer?

Not simply to find out what it is worth as-is. Document the current condition first. You can then compare the offer with the expected repair cost and decide whether putting more money into the RV makes sense.

Send the year, make, model, condition, title status and current photos. Include the route from the RV to the street if access is tight. Then compare the as-is offer with the cost and work of repairing, relocating or privately selling the RV.
