Sell Your RV in Jackson, MS As-Is

If an RV in Jackson needs to go, measure it and plan the pickup before changing its parking spot. Moving a large motorhome onto the street or shifting a trailer from the driveway onto the yard can create a new parking problem without changing what the RV is worth.

Since 2009, Samy RV has purchased recreational vehicles directly from owners, including older, damaged and non-running units. You can request a no-obligation cash offer based on the RV as it sits, with free pickup included when an offer is accepted. The broader RV types and conditions considered are covered separately.

No obligation. Free towing included.

Before You Move the RV, Decide Where It Can Actually Go

Jackson’s parking rules make that question more important than it might seem. Section 118-318 of the city’s Code of Ordinances says a recreational vehicle exceeding 22 feet in length cannot remain parked on a public right-of-way for longer than 24 hours, subject to the ordinance’s stated exceptions.

The City of Jackson’s Municipal Clerk Department identifies City Ordinances among its official resources, and the current Jackson Code of Ordinances contains the applicable parking provisions.

Moving the RV off the street and onto the lawn is not automatically the answer either. Section 118-347 generally restricts vehicle parking in a front yard, the street-facing side yard of a corner lot, or a rear yard that abuts a public street. For that section, the city’s definition of a vehicle expressly includes trailers. Driveways and certain qualifying improved parking areas are among the listed exceptions.

The code defines driveways and improved parking areas using surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, stone pavers or gravel, subject to the section’s conditions. Exact property circumstances can matter, so check the current ordinance rather than treating this page as legal advice.

Don’t trade one parking problem for another just to make the RV easier to sell. If it already needs to go, first find out whether it can be evaluated and removed from where it sits now.

Give the Length, the Surface, and the Route Out

Measure it before you move it. Approximate overall length is useful in Jackson because the city’s public-right-of-way rule uses a 22-foot threshold, and length also affects the space required to remove an RV.

Then step back with the camera. The RV itself is only half the pickup picture. The other half is the ground under it and the road in front of it.

  • Show the parking surface: pavement, gravel or other ground beneath the RV and along the approach.
  • Show the full route: photograph the RV and parking area together, then the complete path toward the street.
  • Show the tight point: gates, fences, trees, branches, wires, buildings, parked vehicles, slopes or sharp turns.

For a motorhome, say whether it starts, shifts into neutral, rolls, steers and brakes, whether keys are available and whether the tires hold air. For a travel trailer or fifth wheel, show the hitch or pin box, landing gear, wheels and tires, and say whether the unit can be raised and rolled.

Do not remove fencing, reposition an unsafe RV or buy tires simply to make an initial review possible. A few feet of turning room can matter more to removal than a cosmetic defect inside the coach.

If It Doesn’t Move Normally, Don’t Fix It Just to Relocate It

A non-running motorhome does not automatically need to be repaired before it can be evaluated. If it starts but will not roll, that is different from an engine that will not start. If it rolls but transport equipment cannot reach it, that is a different problem again.

Repair may make sense if you plan to keep using the RV. If you already intend to sell, first establish the as-is alternative before paying for work solely to move it somewhere else. The guide to selling a non-running RV covers the deeper mechanical decision separately.

Show What Matters for an As-Is Review

You do not need to turn an older RV into a polished classified listing. Start with the year, manufacturer, model, RV type, approximate overall length and mileage for a motorhome. Tell us what moves and what does not.

Show the significant condition honestly: water intrusion, roof or floor damage, drivetrain trouble, tire damage, slide or generator faults, missing keys or structural problems. If the title is missing, a lien exists or ownership is complicated, include that information at the beginning rather than waiting until pickup.

Then include the wide parking and access photographs. “It rolls, but the left rear tire is flat and the gate is tight” is useful information. “Needs TLC” is not.

Broader statewide ownership and selling information belongs on the Mississippi RV page, while the dedicated What We Buy page covers the full range of motorhomes, trailers and conditions considered. Keeping those topics in their proper places lets this page stay focused on the Jackson decision.

Two Jackson Questions to Answer Before Moving the RV

Can I move a large RV onto the street while I wait for pickup?

Do not assume it can remain there until the sale is complete. Jackson’s current ordinance says a recreational vehicle exceeding 22 feet generally cannot remain parked on a public right-of-way for longer than 24 hours, subject to the section’s exceptions and any other applicable parking restrictions. Coordinate the pickup before repositioning the RV.

Can I move a trailer from the driveway onto the front yard instead?

Not automatically. Jackson’s residential parking section defines vehicles to include trailers and generally restricts parking in specified yard areas. Driveways and certain qualifying improved parking areas are among the exceptions, but the exact property layout and applicable rules still matter. Check the current city code before moving the trailer simply to clear the driveway.

Set the Pickup Plan Before You Change the Parking Spot

If an RV in Jackson already needs to go, start with its length, current condition, parking surface and route to the street. Find out what it is worth where it sits before paying to relocate or repair it solely for the sale.
